PL-1 Desktop Lathe

An in progress, open source project, aiming to make a benchtop lathe that can be built at home by anybody with off the shelf parts. The goal of the PL-1 to to enable people to have tools that they can: 1- customize using designs created by themselves or others, 2- order and build for themselves, and 3- use in their own homes. The PL-1 is currently still in its initial design phase, with a goal of creating the first functioning prototype by the end of 2019.

In the interest of simplicity, the PL-1 is designed using as many repeating sub-assemblies, as few parts, and as few suppliers as possible while still creating a functioning and capable machine tool.
